Luperia Gin
Story
Who is Luperia Gin? You take a group of 4 friends, one woman and three guys, all from the La Louvière area.
On both banks of the Thiriau, the famous Abbey of Aulne owned large estates called "Menaulu" or "Meneilut" in 12th century charters. This Roman word became "Luperia" in Latin in 1157 and "Lovaria" in 1168. The Latin concept, retranslated into Roman, was transformed into "Lovière" in 1217. "Le Lovière" in 1284, leading to the term "La Louvière". It should be pointed out that, at the time, the territory of today's La Louvière was a parcel of the old coal forest, made up of dark woods and wilderness. A favorite haunt for wolves and the game hunted by the lords of the time.
When these 4 friends embarked on the project of making their own gin, it was to one of their town's old names that they turned. Why did they do this? Because they're attached to it, and wanted a name associated with it that wouldn't be instantly recognizable.
From the moment the idea germinated to the first bottle of gin, it took time, thought, testing and discussion. The friends wanted a gin that was fruity and fresh, but still a gin with its characteristic juniper berry character.
Since they also needed a distillery, they turned to Dr. Clyde. After 30 trials, they agreed on a citrus gin made only with fresh fruit.
That's right, 30 different trials to achieve what they were looking for and launch production. And they wanted a gin that could also be drunk neat. This is how Luperia Gin de La Louvière came about.
